The number of overseas Vietnamese visiting home in 2003 was estimated at 300,000, including 100,000 during Tet (Lunar New Year).

To welcome the New Year, the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese in HCM City will host a New Year get-together for overseas Vietnamese on January 15, 2004.
Meanwhile, the Overseas Vietnamese Business Association in HCM City will hold a festival for overseas Vietnamese at Lang Toi (My Village) Tourist Village from Jan. 26-28. The festival will feature a year-end party with rural Vietnamese specialties, folk games and consumer goods produced by overseas Vietnamese.

According to the Committee, remittances by overseas Vietnamese via official channels reached US$2.7 billion last year, up 20% against US$2.15 billion in 2002.
